#TarotTuesday – Eight of Swords

Welcome to another Tarot Tuesday!

If you are just joining me, let me explain the inspiration to begin these posts. In Texas, and all across the country, Taco Tuesday is a popular day when Tacos are usually 99 cents. So, I had the inspiration, or Angel nudge as I like to think of it, to create a Tarot Tuesday. Each Tuesday I will post a different Tarot card and give its meaning. I pray and ask for the right card that will bring a universal message.

When I drew this card, at first glance, I thought, I can’t post this. It seems too negative.

But when I looked closer at the meaning, I knew it was perfect, not only for me but others as well. So, this week I bring you the Eight of Swords!

The keywords are: Negative thoughts, self-imposed restriction, imprisonment, and victim mentality.

The Eight of Swords shows a woman bound and blindfolded. Eight swords surround her, seemingly trapping her in place, a symbol of the limiting thoughts, beliefs and mindset that prevent her from moving forward in her life. However, look closer. If the woman removed her blindfold, she would quickly realize that she can escape her predicament by letting go of her limiting beliefs and establishing a new, more empowered mindset. The water pooled at her feet suggests that her intuition might see what her eyes cannot.

The Eight of Swords reveals that you feel trapped and restricted by your circumstances. You believe your options are limited with no clear path out. You might be in an unfulfilling job, an abusive relationship, a significant amount of debt or a situation way out of alignment with your inner being. You are now trapped between a rock and a hard place, with no resolution available. However, take note that the woman in the card is not entirely imprisoned by the eight swords around her, and if she wanted to escape, she could. She merely needs to remove the blindfold and free herself from the self-imposed bindings.

When the Eight of Swords appears in a Tarot reading, it comes as a warning that your thoughts and beliefs are no longer serving you. You may be over-thinking things, creating negative patterns or limiting yourself by only considering the worst-case scenario. The more you think about the situation, the more you feel stuck and without any options. It is time to get out of your head and let go of those thoughts and beliefs holding you back. As you change your thoughts, you change your reality. Replace negative thoughts with positive ones, and you will start to create a more favorable situation for yourself.

The Eight of Swords assures you there is a way out of your current predicament – you just need a new perspective. Be open to finding the answer rather than getting stuck on the problem.

This card is asking you to get out of your head and drop down into your gut and your intuition so you can hear your inner guidance. Your thoughts are not serving you right now, but your intuition is. Trust yourself.

That was power-filled for me and I hope it was for you too. We always have choices whether they are choices we like or not.

Thank you for joining me! See you next Tuesday for another inspiring message from the Universe via the Tarot Cards!

As always, I use the Rider-Waite Radiance deck and BiddyTarot.com for interpretations.

  1. I’m ready to remove those self-inflicted bonds for sure! I couldn’t think of a better card today. We do get ourselves in situations we think have no resolution, but it may just mean time to do something different. It’s figuring the different part out that is the struggle now. I had a woodpecker screeching at me on a tree outside my window this morning. So, definitely getting a lot of messages. Thanks, Jan your cards always resonate.

    1. When this card came up, Denise, I hesitated and thought I didn’t want to post something that could be construed as negative. But when I looked deeper into the meaning, I knew it was perfect. After I read your blog post, plus the things I’ve been going through (self-inflicted bonds), I knew it was right! Thank you so much for stopping by! Yes, the woodpecker is telling you to keep pecking on the log. πŸ™‚ Hugs!

  2. It is crazy how often we think we are open and know “the way” but instead we are so concentrated on “that way” that we are truly blind and immobile for any options which gives us the feeling of getting stuck. We stare into blindness and wonder why we don’t see. This card brings this perfectly to awareness. Wonderfully explained, Jan.

  3. Hi, Jan! This is an important card because it talks about the power of the mind and the effects of negative thinking. This quote came to mind:
β€œThe mind is everything. What you think you become.” Buddha
    Thank you❣️

    1. I agree, Vashti. We are our own worst enemy and impose unnecessary restrictions on ourselves. But, we do have the power to take off the bindings and blindfold and move away from what no longer serves us. I LOVE the quote from Buddha!! Thank you for sharing!

  4. Well, I don’t really think this card applies to me. I’m happy for the most part and happy with the direction of my new story/new series. I’ve stopped worrying about finances. That is what it is. The only fly in the ointment is that Sourcebooks didn’t send my author copies and my release is today. It’s kinda like a party with no one there. But, I called and the books will be here soon. Plus, I ordered extra. One box is bound to show up. I’m learning so much from you about the meaning of Tarot cards. πŸ™‚

    1. I am so glad you are enjoying these posts, sister. Some apply and some don’t. Because we are all individuals and in different situations, we resonate more with some than others. The main thing I got from this card was the self-imposed limitations and beliefs we can put on ourselves and how simple it can be to remove the bindings and move forward. I am SO glad you are in a good place with things going your way!! Enjoy that moment! I love you!

    1. I know, Craig. I never know what’s going to pop out and that is exactly how I get the card for this weekly post. I shuffle them from one hand to the other until one sticks up or pops out and I go with it, no matter the card. I have discovered that if I get out of the way and let the card speak for itself, it always resonates with someone and this one is no exception. We limit ourselves and place bindings around ourselves and over our eyes, they cry out, “Woe is me.” We are such strange creatures. πŸ™‚ Thanks for stopping by!

  5. Jan- This is a perfect Card with lots of meaning. You do such a great job of describing the meaning to us.
It kind of goes with my special day, today!! It’s my 19th sobriety birthday.
Another example of taking off the blindfold and realizing that nothing can bind us if we just start to see the beauty and strength in ourselves.
Great great tarot reading. Love you Sweetie, I sure hope you’re nearly mended and feeling much better.

    1. Happy Birthday, Tonya!!! And congratulations on 19 years of sobriety. What a wonderful life-changing event to celebrate. You are so right in that we think we are stuck in a situation, but we always have options. Thank you, sweet sister, for leaving this comment and I’m happy to celebrate your day with you!!! Love you!
