My progress – or lack thereof #NaNoWriMo

So, I committed to participate in #NaNoWriMo.

Then life happened in a really big way. And my word count progress is pitiful. But, I am not giving up. Any word count is good, right?

So here’s a snippet from my WIP, “JAGGED FEATHERS”:

Nakina understood more about him than he knew. He was keeping something from her. Something big enough, that he would go to any lengths for it to remain hidden.

Her heart broke for the soldier who took on her fight without hesitation. He’d simply been trying to rebuild his own life and find some semblance of peace. Then she came along with her baggage and disrupted his entire world.

Truth be told, she was happy it was Vann Noble that found her that cold morning. Perhaps there was such a thing as fate or kismet. She couldn’t imagine that anyone else would have so willingly jumped in to rescue her. She swallowed past the lump in her throat. They had to somehow get out of this alive.

So far, my word count for the month is around 7,500, while according to NaNoWriMo, to reach my goal, I should be over 10,000. But, as I said, any progress is good progress. At least I’ve returned to the story after almost a year. 🙂

I hope everyone participating in #NaNoWriMo is having less interruptions and more writing success!

  1. Nothing at all wrong with 7,500, Jan. One of the challenges with Nano is that “life getting in the way” thing. I can relate and never sweat the word counts. Glory in writing and enjoy every moment. And great snippet by the way. 🙂

  2. Sometimes the writing happens off-page. I sense a good story here; your snippet prompts questions: what kind of danger did Nakina face, who is the soldier and what kind of soldier is he, what does he hide, and why are he and Nakina fighting for their lives? It’s brewing, you’ll get it down. 🙂

  3. Love the excerpt, Jan! Yay for 7500! Thats more than you had before you started. I’m stressing trying to keep up and make the goal. So, I decided everything I get is something i wouldn’t have done if I hadn’t joined. I hate not keeping up on my self imposed goals but life is happening here, too. I think its great we are trying something new and getting a story out of it…yay! Make the goal…maybe not but at least we did it:)

    1. That is the attitude I have, Denise. I am happy to be working on the story and numbers are just that – numbers. At least NaNo got me back to the story! Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment!

  4. I understand the stress. When I set goals I work hard to meet them. I also beat myself up when I don’t. I can’t do NaNo, because my opportunities are spread out. I do pretty good when given writing time, but that can be weeks apart. Not good for a process like NaNo.

  5. Good morning Jan- This sounds amazing. Do not give up and don’t fret about your word count, just write from your heart and enjoy your creation, one word at a time. Love you!

    1. Thank you, dear Tonya! And don’t worry. I’m not giving up by a long shot. But, I am going to enjoy telling the story and quit worrying about word count!! 🙂 Love you!

  6. I’ve got as far as writing out half of a plot. By my counts, I’ll need to do about 4,000 words a day to catch up! At the moment my word count is minus everything.

    1. Again, that’s okay! The only pressure we have is what we place on ourselves and if telling our stories causes stress, then we need to reevaluate! Thanks so much for your comment. Hang in there and pat yourself on the back for having half of a plot!! Way to go!
