#TarotTuesday – The Empress

Welcome to another Tarot Tuesday!

If you are just joining me, let me explain the inspiration to begin these posts. In Texas, and all across the country, Taco Tuesday is a popular day when Tacos are usually 99 cents. So, I had the inspiration, or Angel nudge as I like to think of it, to create a Tarot Tuesday. Each Tuesday I will post a different Tarot card and give its meaning. I pray and ask for the right card that will bring a universal message.

I created a short video to demonstrate how I pull the card for the posts. If you’re interested, here’s a LINK.

Today’s card is from the Major Arcana – The Empress.

The keywords for this card are: Femininity, beauty, nature, nurturing, and abundance.

The Empress signifies a strong connection with our femininity. Femininity translates in many ways – elegance, sensuality, fertility, creative expression, nurturing – and is necessary for creating balance in both men and women. The Empress calls on you to connect with your feminine energy. Create beauty in your life. Connect with your senses through taste, touch, sound, smell and sight. Draw on these senses to experience pleasure and deep fulfilment. Treat yourself to a day spa, learn massage, enjoy a fine restaurant or spend more time with your partner. Discover different approaches to expressing yourself creatively, be it through painting, music, drama or other art forms. This may be the perfect chance to take up a new hobby that enables you to access this part of yourself.

The Empress signifies abundance. You are surrounded by life’s pleasures and luxuries and have everything you need to live a comfortable lifestyle. You are in a period of growth, in which all you have dreamed of is now coming to fruition. When the Empress appears in your Tarot readings, take a moment to reflect on the bounty that surrounds you and offer gratitude for all you have created so you can continue to build on this energy and create even more abundance in your life.

As the Mother Earth archetype, the Empress urges you to venture out into nature to ground your energy and be in flow with the earth. Take a trip to your favorite natural setting, be it a forest, beach, mountain or lake, and sit for a couple of minutes, hours or even days to breathe in the energy that surrounds you while marveling in the beauty of your surroundings. Allow yourself the time and the space to enter a different frame of mind and receive the grounding spirit of nature into your heart and consciousness. When you do this, you can reach higher planes of consciousness.

When you are in tune with the energy of the Empress, you will naturally take on her mothering nature. You feel a strong urge to nurture and care for others, from a place of loving compassion and support. You see it as a gift and an honor to tend to others, and in doing so you, too, receive benefit. In a more literal sense, you may step into the role of ‘mother’, perhaps as the mother of a newborn, caretaker of other people’s children, or spending more quality time with your kids.

The Empress can also suggest pregnancy or birth. This may be an actual pregnancy or childbirth, or a metaphorical ‘birth’ of a new idea or project. Bring your creative ideas into being by nurturing them and supporting their growth. Allow those designs and their manifestation to flow through you, acting with compassion and love.

I don’t see any particular way this card applies to me that’s unusual or out of the ordinary, although I did treat myself to a massage today. 🙂 I’m always in a caretaking role. It’s what fits me best. I help take care of my grand girls on a daily basis and love nurturing and guiding them. On the other hand, the idea or birth of a new project is applicable in several different ways for me. How about you? Does this card speak to you in a loud and clear way?

  1. This is one of the cards I am not sure how to compare it with my life in the beginning. But the more I read your words and think about it, the clearer it becomes how many aspects of my current life situation it speaks to. I am glad, I dropped it to see your Tarot Tuesday 😊

    1. I find that there is usually some aspect of the card I can relate to when I look deeper. Thanks so much for stopping by and leaving a comment. I see lots of The Empress traits in you, Erika. You are kind, nurturing, and giving. Have a great day!

      1. That’s right, sometimes that happens when I look at the cards and they don’t speak to me right away, but looking a bit deeper I can see that deeper message. But mostly, they are right on target… lol. Thank you for telling me what you see, Jan. I am humbled 💖

    1. Hi, Sally. thank you for stopping by. Yes, lavender is necessary these days for many reasons. I pray that our world stops turning topsy turvy soon and that we can find some much-needed relief. Self-care is very important and something that women tend to neglect as we are always giving to others. I appreciate your comment! Hugs!

  2. I like this card, Jan. I feel like it describes me more so than any other card because it describes my “mothering” nature of caring for my siblings, my daughter, my grandkids, and my students. This is a good card for me. 🙂

  3. I relate to the caregiving side of this card. My mom has been going through some horrible health issues and it’s fallen to me to be her caregiver (which I do gladly). I wish more than anything that I could take her pain away.

    1. Caregiving is not easy, Jacquie, and because I have been there, I want to say, “don’t forget to take care of yourself too.” I pray that your mom may have some pain-free days! Thank you for stopping by.

  4. This is a lovely card, Jan. Thanks for the reading. I haven’t treated myself to a nice spa treatment in a while. I think I’ll take the advice of The Empress and schedule something. I need it. 😉 xo

    1. Great idea, Vashti. It was wonderful and I did not feel the least bit guilty even though I am way behind on everything. The world didn’t stop turning because I took an hour for myself. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by!

      1. I was not referring to feminine vs masculine, Vashti. I was referring to the birth of a new project that Jan mentioned. Since my dad died when I was ten and I was raised by females, I think my feminine side is well developed. I suppose I could have made my comment clearer but didn’t feel it was in any way offensive. If you were offended I truly apologise.

    1. Oh no, John! I was not offended in the least. I’m sorry I gave you that impression. My husband has a hard time admitting that he has a feminine side, so I tease him sometimes. It was mostly good-natured banter than anything else.

  5. Thanks for the reading, Jan. For me, it’s often the image on the card as much as its traditional meaning. This nurturing Empress looks comfy, cozy, and content. My back has put me out of action for the past week. I’m always hard on myself, so I’m feeling guilty about not accomplishing anything. Looking at this Empress reminds me that it’s okay for me to “do nothing” when I’m in pain. Thanks for this reminder. LOL, I’ll try not to feel so guilty about it.
    Hugs on the wing.

    1. I totally love that, Teagan. I too love looking at the amazing images on these cards and taking a lot of meaning from them. The Empress is very much at ease in her pomegranate robe and doesn’t look like she needs to rush to do anything. So, YES, it is okay to do nothing when you do not feel well. In fact, that is your body’s way of shutting you down. I pray that you feel better soon, and thank you for stopping by!

  6. This is a card I can relate to for sure in many ways. I felt a change the last couple of days and this fits them. I always embrace nature, but a massage sounds wonderful. I can’t wait to get one again.

    1. It’s interesting, Denise, but when I drew this card, you are the first person I thought of. It truly fits you and the way you always embrace nature. I’m so glad you stopped by and the massage was wonderful! I highly recommend it!! 🙂

  7. I’m appreciating the change of season right now, especially with autumn offering peak colors. In that way, I’m enjoying my natural surroundings and delighting in our wonderful Earth. Other than that, I don’t think this card has any strong impact for me right now, but it’s a good message.

    1. The fall is my favorite time of the year and I love watching the colors change, the plants and trees going dormant, and jackets and gloves are a must. 🙂 I can only imagine how beautiful it is where you live. I’d love to see some photos. 🙂 Have a great day, and thanks for stopping by!

  8. Like you, this role is loud in my head every day. I will say that I was able to finally get out and walk among the trees again yesterday. It’s been raining for about two weeks in the afternoons, so I haven’t been able to do my walks. So, I guess I can apply it to being able to become one with Mother Nature again. 🙂

    1. I can see that giving nature in you, Yvette. How wonderful that you got to get out in nature after so much rain. There is nothing like the beauty of nature to replenish our energy. Thank you for stopping by! Have a GREAT day!

  9. What a beautiful card to pull just before the election! At a time when people are sequestered, when positions are hardened, when truth is hidden, when so much seems awry — the nurturer emerges. How perfect! ❤

    1. Oh my goodness, Gwen! You are SO right on with your comment. I hadn’t thought of it on that scale, but we need that nurturing desperately, as a country. Thank you for stopping by and sharing such amazing wisdom! Love you!

  10. Good morning Jan- I loved the blog and tarot reading. I’m a nurturer by design I guess. This card sorta spoke to me, I am always wanting to do for others and often do not think of myself. However lately I have started treating myself a little more. Life is too short not to take care of my own needs.
Thanks for sharing this and I hope all is well with you. Love you Dearly.

    1. You are SO right, Tonya. I know you are by nature, a giver and that you get great joy out of gifting to others. But you hit on something very important. If you don’t take care of yourself, then you won’t have the energy to give to others. Believe me, it’s a lesson I’m still trying to learn. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by. Love you too!
