#TarotTuesday – Queen of Swords

Welcome to another Tarot Tuesday!

If you are just joining me, let me explain the inspiration to begin these posts. In Texas, and all across the country, Taco Tuesday is a popular day when Tacos are usually 99 cents. So, I had the inspiration, or Angel nudge as I like to think of it, to create a Tarot Tuesday. Each Tuesday I will post a different Tarot card and give its meaning. I pray and ask for the right card that will bring a universal message.

I created a short video to demonstrate how I pull the card for the posts. If you’re interested, here’s a LINK.

Today’s card is the Queen of Swords.

It’s been a while since we’ve had a Swords card, so just to refresh, the Swords represent  the mental level of consciousness that is centered around the mind and the intellect.

Keywords for the Queen of Swords: Independent, unbiased judgement, clear boundaries, and direct communication.

The Queen of Swords combines the mental clarity and intellectual power of the suit of Swords with the maturity and receptiveness of the Queen. You have the gift of being able to use your intellect and unbiased judgement while also remaining flexible and open to receive input from other sources. As you lead from the head and not the heart, you are better able to discern situations without the influence of emotion or sentimentality. Instead, you prefer to know the how, what, why, where, when and who of everything to help you make sense of your environment and better understand others. It is not that you do not care about others, but you connect with other people through an intellectual understanding rather than an emotional one.

The Queen of Swords notes that you are a truth-seeker. You are open to hearing the thoughts and opinions of others, but ultimately, you filter that information to decipher what is true and what is not. When interacting with others, you will not tolerate mistruths or excessive ‘fluff’. You prefer to get to the heart of the matter without engaging in too much chit-chat or gossip.

The Queen of Swords suggests that you have an innate ability to tell it like it is. You are a quick thinker and highly perceptive, piercing through the noise and confusion to get straight to the point. There is no ‘beating about the bush,’ or ‘softening’ of your comments, opinions and thoughts. You are upfront and honest in your views, and you expect the same from others. For this reason, many people respect your opinion and come to you for advice when they need clarity.

As a determined, independent and resilient person, you have established clear boundaries, and you are quick to call out someone who crosses them. People do not mess with you, not because you threaten them or inflict violence, but because you set expectations up front about how you want to be treated. Some people might be intimidated by you, but once they get past your tough exterior and develop a sense of trust and respect, they see your softer side.

I have always related to the Queen of Swords in many ways and long to be more like her. While I’ve always lived my life from my heart and not my head, many times that’s gotten me into situations I’d been better off to have avoided. So, I take the advice from this card to heart in my efforts to grow and learn. How about you? Do you relate to this card, or know someone in your life who fits this? What is the message for you?

Thank you for joining me! See you next Tuesday for another inspiring message from the Universe via the Tarot Cards!

As always, I use the Rider-Waite Radiance deck and BiddyTarot.com for interpretations.

  1. I’m more of a cups person, Jan, but the Queen of Swords has some wise counsel, particularly during these times when emotions are still running high. I’m trying to be less “reactive” and more rational and even tempered. It seems like a great choice for the times. ❤

  2. I do relate to this card, Jan. I work everyday to be more like the queen of swords. In the past, I had a hard time setting bounderies, and I used to let people off too easy. Now, I realize that people tend to respect those who respect themselves. 😀 xo

  3. Very much related. I also think with my heart – too much 💔 That’s why I already know, I shall never marry. I have had that kind of relationships, which has taught me. Or have they? I fall in love easily, but I see easily through lies, and notice quickly, if someone just wants to misuse me. 😊 It is very difficult to find a real LOVE in this world, and honest people 😢 I can love, but often those I know already, I cannot have. Far away. And I love animals very much, their love is pure, honest, they love unconditionally 🐱 ❤️ I think still, there are also good and honest people, but I am too tired to try. Am I cynical? Nope; just realist.

  4. I’m always trying to understand. I will research both sides and try to remain open to the information. I usually end up frustrated and end up trusting my heart.

  5. I love Gwen’s interpretation and feel that she hits its meaning spot on for this time in our lives. I connect with this card completely. I don’t see the rigidity that Staci sees. I am both an empath AND a logical thinker. I can feel the energies around me and I can empathize with others, but when it comes to decision making, I look for the truths and lay out my options. I am steadfast in my beliefs, but I’m also open to learning new ideas and ways of thinking. I think it’s about finding the balance between the heart and the head, which also means using both.

    1. You are the true epitome of the Queen of Swords, Yvette. You’ve found a way to balance between the mental and emotional and that’s no easy task. Thank you so much for stopping by today! Have the best day ever!

  6. After this past year, I’ve started shutting my emotional side down and begun leaning into my logical side. I’m not sure I like it, to be honest. It hurts less, but it’s very cold. I guess I’d rather make emotional mistakes than make the right decisions with clinical and rigid reason. Some of those “right” decisions still don’t “feel” right. It’s weird.

    Interesting card, Jan.

    1. I totally relate to what you are saying, Staci. But when we shut down our emotional side, creativity also suffers, because after all, aren’t our stories pure emotions? You are right though, it hurts less. It’s another of those life ironies that we have to figure out. I hate being hurt, but I hate not feeling anything at all worse. Thank you for stopping by and leaving a comment! I think the key is finding a balance, and for me, that’s the hardest of all.

  7. Thank you, Jan. I always read your post from a collective vantage point because you offer it broadly. Today’s reading is particularly on target. The Queen seeks Truth. I see evidence of her throughout our society. People may have voted one way or another, but more than anything they want Truth. This one desire unites the silent majority – not the conspiracies and not the hateful rhetoric. The great masses want an end to chaos and only Truth can do that.

This is a powerfully hopeful card. May all that the Queen of Swords represents fill our hearts and evoke courage to face the remaining hurdles of this demanding time. ❤

    1. What a beautiful interpretation of this card, Gwen. And you are right. People are seeking the TRUTH! I do hope the Queen of Swords is an indication that people are finding the strength to demand it. Thank you so much for stopping by!
