#TuesdayRunes – Thurisaz #Runes #RunicSymbols

Welcome back for another segment of exploring the magic of the runes!

The next symbol in The Elder Futhark script is Thurisaz (thoo-ree-sahz).

The keywords are: Protection, warning, contemplation, decisions and luck.

Thurisaz is mainly concerned with aspects of protection and resistance to danger and other unwanted circumstances. The shape of this runic symbol represents a thorn on a branch. It symbolizes the wisdom of choosing a defensive stance, rather than rushing to attack an adversary.

If you go into a challenging or potentially dangerous situation, you can surround yourself with a shield of protective energy, carry a talisman, and be extra mindful of your environment and your actions. Taking these measures is often enough to deter potential attackers from trying to harm or take advantage of you. Consider this rune as a stern but friendly warning to be alert to potential danger.

Another common interpretation of Thurisaz indicates you are facing an important decision requiring careful consideration. Be sure to evaluate every aspect of the situation before making your move. Don’t make your choice from a place of emotion. The ability to come from a rational place when making a decision that could significantly impact your life is another form of protection.

I hope you’ve enjoyed this close look at Thurisaz!

My very good friend, Kay, sent this to me, and I thought it would be fun to add to our exploration of The Runes. It is the first time I’ve seen runes associated to a birth date, much like birthstones. I don’t know if this contains any amount of accuracy, so adding it just for the fun of it.

  1. It is amazing that Thurisaz is presented today after I had to do exactly that: making a decision from a rational place, and not from an emotional one. Awesome confirmation!
I love the birthday runes. I am Lagu.

    1. How awesome! 🙂 So glad you were able to back up and make the decision from logic. I have noted that they spell some of the runes differently on the birthday chart. In the Elder Futhark script, it is Laguz. It will be interesting to see if that one resonates with you when we get there! Thank you, Erika!

  2. This is so fascinating, Jan. I would say a good dose of protection and logical decisions are just what is needed. I will have to look up the meaning of my birthday rune.

    1. Wonderful, Denise! I’m so glad the post resonated with you. Which rune is your birth rune? And note that some of them are spelled differently on the chart. Let me know. Thank you for stopping by!

  3. Hi,
The more I look at the stones in the picture, I am sure that I have seen some them on the Island of Langeoog, which is in Northern Germany. It is interesting because I had never paid attention to them. You see them in the coffee shops or sitting on tables in some of the restaurant.
The next time I’m up there I will pay more attention.

      1. I definitely will take some pictures when I go back. The Island Langeoog is beautiful. There are no cars allowed. You have to park your car and catch the ferry to get to the island. There are horses snd carriages, bicycles, and skate boards but no cars or buses. You walk. There are emergency cars like the fire truck, police cars, etc. Horseback riding is very in on the island. I do enjoy going there. And they have beautiful sand. Shalom aleichem

    1. I’m so glad you are finding the posts interesting, Gwen. We are never too old or young to learn new things and I’m thrilled to offer this little tutorial on runes. Thank you for stopping by!

    1. Right, Harmony. One thing I noticed on the chart is the spellings are a little different. In the Elder Futhark script, it is Uruz. Take a look back at the last rune post as we covered Uruz then. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

    1. So true, Jill. That’s a lesson I’ve never quite learned in life as I’ve always let my heart lead me. So, I took some advice from this rune. 🙂 Thanks for stopping by!

    1. I think we are going to find that each rune, just as with the Tarot cards, will have a particular resonance. I too, like this rune. There are many times in life we need to take a defensive stance rather than rushing forward to attack. I thought you guys would find the birthday chart cool, whether it’s accurate or not, we’ll see. 🙂 Thank you for stopping by.
