#TuesdayRunes – Eihwaz

Welcome to another segment of our study of the runes! Today we take a look at Eihwaz (eeh-wahz).

Eihwaz Rune photo by Jan Sikes

The keywords for this rune are death, regeneration, rebirth, changes, and magic. While those words may not sound like they have much in common, they truly do. This rune represents the Yew tree, making it symbolic of both death and regeneration. The Yew is a highly toxic plant to humans and livestock. In ancient times, poisons from the tree were used for murder and suicide. However, on the other hand, the yew tree is also considered a tree of life, due to its evergreen nature and extreme longevity. A wild Yew can live for thousands of years and when they do begin to die, they can be regenerated by their own daughter trees that grow inside their decaying trunks.

Eihwaz is an extremely powerful symbol of the cycle of death and life.

Eihwaz does not indicate literal death, but much like the Death card in the Tarot deck, indicates an ending that will lead to a new beginning. If things seem to be at a halt (Wow! That makes me think of the Hangman card we got in yesterday’s tarot reading), be patient. You are being asked to allow an old situation to fall away so that new developments can enter your life.

It can also symbolize leaving behind old ways, allowing old aspects of yourself to die away now that they are no longer serving you. Don’t resist the changes that are underway. Instead, learn to go with the flow and be flexible. You may not be able to see it now, but what you are currently dealing with is paving the way for a new and improved situation.

Another interesting comparison of this rune and the Death card in the Tarot deck is that even though runes precede tarot cards by at least a thousand years, both carry the number 13. The Death card is the thirteenth card in the Major Arcana, and Eihwaz is the thirteenth rune in the Elder Futhark.

My take away from this rune, if it were to show up in a reading would be: Death is only the end of a cycle and NEVER the end of the story!

Other meanings of this rune include an association with magical work, particularly of a protective nature in dealing with transformation. It has been called a symbol of the gateway to the underworld and of deliberate journeys to the non-physical realm in search of knowledge or understanding. This rune can offer protection, overcoming obstacles, spiritual development, strengthening of physical and magical powers.

Again, I want to remind you this is not a reading, simply a study of this rune.

The birthdates associated with this rune are December 28th to January 13th.

Monday #Motivation #Meditation #TarotReading Root Chakra

Blog Banner created by Jan Sikes

Over the next few weeks, I am going to focus on each of the seven main chakras, starting with the Root Chakra. Each week I will offer inspiration to expand and clear all our chakras so we can function at our highest capacity! I hope you love this meditation as much as I did.

Now for our weekly Tarot Reading.

Tarot Reading 5-9-21 Jan Sikes

The Hanged Man always represents a state of limbo. He is literally hanging around, not stressed or worried, but waiting. And because he is hanging upside down, the card indicates that perhaps a different perspective is needed. Both The Hanged Man and The Justice cards come from the major arcana which affects deep life lessons and karmic influences. So they are both very powerful cards. The Justice card represents truth, fairness, justice, and the law. It often appears when you need to make an important choice with the potential for long-term repercussions. Be aware of the impact your decisions will have on your well-being and the well-being of others. At its core, Justice is about seeking the truth of a matter and doing so with perhaps a different perspective and fairness. The Five of Pentacles can represent hard times, particularly in a career, job, or financial stability. It is somewhat of a warning. Embracing a “lack mindset” can indeed bring it to fruition. What you give energy to flourishes. If you think you don’t have enough, guess what? You won’t. So, with the other two cards in front of it, what I get is that with a different perspective and seeking truth, you can avoid some hard times.

I hope you’ve gotten some inspiration from this week’s post. Here’s to a wonderful perspective that brings truth and abundance!

#NewRelease! Shh…It’s Our Secret @Lizzie_Chantree

I am so excited to share my blog space with the amazing author, Lizzie Chantree! She is here to tell us all about her newest book release!

Thank you, Jan! I’m thrilled to be here!

I want to share a character profile from my newest book, “Shh…It’s Our Secret.”

Having good mental health can help us relax, achieve more and lead happier lives. In my latest book, “Shh. It’s Our Secret,” my main character, Violet, has been dealt some blows by life. She is determined to show her friends and her sister that she can be a strong person and successful in her chosen career, which is managing a run-down café and bar.

The café bar regulars have become Violet’s family, following the loss of her own parents, and she fights to persuade the new owners of the café that the regulars should still be a part of the rebranded bar’s make-up. Three feisty pensioners and some untrained bar staff don’t really appeal to Kai, but he soon learns why they mean so much to Violet.

Violet has a shy personality and although she is very friendly, she hides in her comfort zone and shies away from any conflict. She has a secret that could change the fate of the whole community, but to share it means that she has to believe in herself, to step out of the shadows, and find her voice.

Book Blurb:

Violet has a secret that could change the lives of everyone she knows and loves, especially the regulars at the run-down café bar where she works. After losing her parents at a young age, they are the closest thing she has to a family and she feels responsible for them.

Kai is a jaded music producer who has just moved outside of town. Seeking solitude from the stress of his job, he’s looking for seclusion. The only problem is he can’t seem to escape the band members and songwriters who keep showing up at his house.

When Kai wanders into the bar and Violet’s life, he accidentally discovers her closely guarded secret. Can Kai help her rediscover her self-confidence or should some secrets remain undiscovered?

#NewRelease – A Cowboy of Legend @LBroday @WesternRomance #Giveaway

I am SO super excited to have my big sister as a guest today! And, she has a brand new release, The Lone Star Series Book 1.

Thank you for having me, Jan. I’m so excited to be here talking about my new book.

Excuse me, what’s Your Name?

This question wasn’t asked much on the American frontier and if you were so bold, you were liable to get shot. The old West offered men (and women) a multitude of places to disappear into and leave behind whatever trouble he/she found themselves in.

No telephone. No internet. No Social Security numbers. Nothing. It was perfect.

There were probably hundreds of men back then looking to change their identities and disappear, and did. Outlaws checked into hotels and boardinghouses under an alias as did most politicians and famous people and still do today. In fact, in the 1800s it was such a common practice that, when introduced, people naturally assumed that the name was fake.

Elvis Presley used Jon Burrows when he sought anonymity. Frank Sinatra became Frankie Satin. Marilyn Monroe was Zelda Zonk.

In 1974, a singer/songwriter named Connie Converse told her family and friends that she’d had enough and was going to disappear. She packed up her Volkswagen Beetle and drove away. No one ever heard from her again despite many searches.

In my upcoming release, A Cowboy of Legend, Deacon Brannock has taken a fake name in order to disappear. All is well and good until firebrand Grace Legend marches into Hell’s Half Acre with burning determination to shut down his saloon, The Three Deuces. She’s a member of the Temperance Society and hellbent on running him out of business. All her life, she’s taken up one cause after another but this one springs from her heart and is what she’s most passionate about.

But here’s the thing…Grace is also a reporter and writes a weekly column under her own alias in an attempt to hide it from her family. Like a bloodhound, she discovers that Deacon Brannock is hiding a humdinger of a juicy secret. Oh, I love it!

A Cowboy of Legend contains a lot of secrets. Writing about secrets is fun for an author. Where there are secrets there’s conflict and those are what drives a story. I just love it when a book contains mysteries. I can’t turn the pages fast enough.

You can find an excerpt on my webpage: https://lindabroday.com/books/lone-star-legends/a-cowboy-of-legend-1-lone-star-legends/

This is Book 1 of a new series called Lone Star Legends and released April 27th. Book 2 – A Cowboy Christmas Legend – follows in September.

My question: If you could change your identity and disappear, would you? My generation really overdid the Lindas and I’ve hated my name so I think I’d chose to be Sierra or maybe Summer or Sapphire. What new name would you choose if you were going to disappear?

I’m giving away an autographed copy (either print or ebook) so I wish you luck!

ABOUT THE AUTHOR:

NY Times and USA Today Bestselling Author, Linda Broday

I’m a New York Times and USA Today bestselling author of historical western romance books and short stories. Here in the Texas Panhandle, I reside on ancient land that carries the voices of those who’ve gone before on the wind. If I close my eyes and get real still, I often hear them whispering stories in my ear.

My love of history and the Old West was born from watching TV westerns and visiting museums and libraries. I’ve always been an avid reader and books opened up entirely new exciting worlds that seemed limited only by my imagination.

Cowboys have always fascinated me and I often think I was born 150 years too late. I love writing about those men, their ladies, and the struggles they endure in trying to carve out a small place to call home. Western romance is my passion and I feel truly blessed. Humble roots and the love of family have become focal points in my stories. I sincerely hope readers enjoy what I strive to bring to life on the printed page.

I’m a mother, grandmother, and now a great grandmother. In my family, I’m the storyteller and the one who records our history. I come from a long line of poor but prideful people. That’s okay. I’m happy with that. This is my legacy.

#TuesdayRunes – Jera

Welcome back as we continue our study of the Elder Futhark Script Runes!

Today, we continue on in the Hagal’s Aett Runes with Jera (Yair-ah)

Jera is the rune of harvest and of the seasonal year, which is ever turning. Jera signifies that each season of a cycle has its purpose, and so it also reminds us that the attainment of goals often takes time. A seed planted in spring must be given time to grow, and the resulting plant can only be harvested in its proper time. But provided you have put the necessary work into preparing the soil, tending the crops, and reaping the harvest, Jera indicates that your efforts will be successful.

As the fourth rune in Hagal’s Aett, Jera follows the series of three runes that focused on obstacles. If you have been dealing with adversity, Jera emerges as a positive sign that troubles are receding, and you are moving into a fortuitous time of forward activity. This is a rune for reaping rewards for hard work and perseverance.

It can indicate prosperity and abundance, success in business, or some other form of payoff for your efforts. Celebrate your good fortune, appreciate the joys of your current circumstances and strengthen your hopes and plans for the future.

Don’t rest on your laurels too long, however. Just as the work of preparing for winter must follow close on the heels of the harvest celebrations, the need for careful resourcefulness and quiet patience will come around again in due time. This is simply the natural cyclical order of life. Understanding this helps you to flow with circumstances rather than resisting them.

It can also represent a wedding and fertility.

At any rate, Jera symbolizes the union of opposites. The sun rises. The sun goes down – the meeting points of night and day. In this context, you are advised to acknowledge any adversity you are, or have been experiencing, will ultimately contribute to your growth – you are who you are because of the lessons life has taught you.

Birthdates associated with Jera – December 13 to December 28.

Monday #Motivation #Meditation #TarotReading

Happy Monday and happy start to a new week!

And now for our Tarot Reading for the upcoming week.

Photo Courtesy of Jan Sikes 5-3-21

There is a lot of energy floating around out there this week, starting with the Knight of Wands. As you can see just from the horse’s demeanor, he is raring to go! This card indicates energy, passion, motivation, and enthusiasm. Sounds like a good start to me. However, be mindful that the Knight of Wands can express himself as an ‘act first, think later’ type of person. In your pursuit of action, you may be impulsive and impatient, expecting everything to be done yesterday. Me? Never! 🙂 The Page of Swords is all about new ideas, a thirst for knowledge, or new ways of communicating. Along with the Knight of Wands, the Page of Swords is also a huge energy and passion card. When this card shows up, you may be bursting at the seams with new ideas or plans for the future. And, as Swords can relate to communication, it can suggest that you are finding a new way to express yourself and are excited to try it out. Then, the Queen of Cups reins it all in with her beautiful sense of calm and balance. In this reading, she is encouraging you to take the energy of these new ideas, projects, or new ways of thinking and find a flow. You are being asked to trust your intuition and pay attention to your feelings and emotions. Lead with your heart, not your head. Be open to receive the intuitive messages flowing to you, be it through your dreams, meditation or visualization. And ‘feel the feels’, even if those feelings are tricky or challenging. You are stronger than you know. Wow! I don’t know about you, but this reading really resonates with me. I’d love to hear from you.

Thank you for joining us for another positive start to a new week!

As long as there is one person on earth who remembers you…

As long as there is one person left alive on earth who remembers you, you are never completely gone.

James Richard (Rick) Sikes

8-5-35 to 5-1-09

Excerpt from ‘TIL DEATH DO US PART:

“Aren’t they the people who help you die?” Luke asked.

The doctor’s voice was quiet. “Yes.”

“We’ll talk about it all.”

“Fine. I’ll be back tomorrow.”

Once he left, Darlina leaned over the bed and laid her head on Luke’s chest. “Oh Luke. What are we going to do?”

He stroked her hair. “Sugar, you know I’d do anything to stay here with you, but I can’t stand to be more of an invalid than I already am. I don’t want to live without any legs.”

She raised her head and looked into his watery blue eyes. “You know I’ll always do my best to take care of you.”

“I know, but look at what I’ve already put you through.”

“You’ve put yourself through far worse. What I’ve done, I’d do all over again a million times. There is nothing stronger than our love…Nothing.”

“There are so many things I’ve left half-done. If only I could have a few more years.” The words ended with a sigh. “Would you climb up here beside me?”

“Of course.” She slipped her shoes off and gingerly raised herself up on the bed and snuggled next to him. She cradled his head against her breast.

Sobs shook Luke’s shoulders. “I’ll never be totally gone. You know that don’t you? I’ll always be with you.”

Darlina sobbed with him. “I know.”

Words became inadequate.
