Friday Free-For-All! Music Festival and Keyboard

I have to start this Friday’s post off with a short recap of the amazing music festival I attended last weekend. With over 36 hours and 112 bands and solo acts, not counting the nightly campfires, it was a lot! There wasn’t much sleeping involved. And, I even got to dance. 🙂

I took some early author copies of Saddled Hearts and sold them all. I wish I would have had at least ten more! Then this lovely lady had purchased Flowers and Stone from Amazon, and brought it to the festival for me to autograph. She then ended up buying the other three books. Thank goodness I had packed a couple of each.

Jan and Linda Harlan

All in all, I sold $280 of books. That’s not bad! Plus there was a gorgeous full moon! I thought of Dan Antion as I tried to capture it between the two flags. I am sure he would have done a better job.

And last, but certainly not least, I got to put Saddled Hearts in Deryl Dodd‘s hands. You see, he is in the book as himself along with his song, “One Ride In Vegas.” It almost took an act of Congress for the publisher to allow me to include him, but he so graciously signed all the waivers they insisted on. So, it made me very happy to hand him an autographed copy.

I left the festival, tired, but with my heart full to overflowing. It was the best of the year for sure, and a wonderful way to close out the season!

Meanwhile back in the real world, what’s up with my keyboard? Over and over I wear the letters off the keys. I guess I hit them too hard or something. Does that happen to you too?

So, I found some stick-on tabs on Amazon that says they are tough and durable and will stay on the keys. For less than $6, I ordered them and stuck them on. They aren’t uniform or even, but at least all the keys are visible once again.

I have no idea how well they will stay on, but it prevents me from having to purchase yet another keyboard when the one I have is barely over a year old.

Have you ever tried these? I’ll have to let you know how long they last. 🙂

That’s it from me for this Friday. I hope everyone has a great weekend!!

  1. First off, it’s always fun to see someone having a good time dancing, and you clearly were. Next, I’ll bet it was fun for Deryl to discover that he was in a work of fiction as himself. Finally, the worn keyboard letters are a thing around our house too. Certain letters (predictably, the ones that receive the most use) seem to disappear faster than the rest.

    1. It was a great trip, and yes, the book sales help pay for it for sure. That’s the great thing about Apple products. They do stand behind them. Great that they replaced yours. Thanks for visiting!

  2. It looks like you had a fantastic time, Sister. I know how music feeds your soul and always has. I also have a problem wearing the keys off my keyboard. I didn’t know Amazon had the stick ons! Wow! I’m going to have to buy some! Thanks for the information. Love you dearly.

    1. I did have a great time for sure. And as always, when we take time to step away, we come back way behind on everything, but it was worth it. So far, the stick-ons are holding good. It’s certainly then buying another keyboard. Thank you for stopping by. Love you!

  3. What a fabulous weekend, Jan! Loved seeing all those smiles and sales! Thanks for sharing. And I burst out laughing when I saw your keyboard. I’ve only had my laptop for a couple years and certain letters are already missing. I love that you found some on amazon. I never thought to look there.

    1. Well, you know you can find any and everything on Amazon these days. 🙂 Apparently, the manufacturers of the keyboards haven’t found a way to put on no-fade letters. 🙂 so far the stick-on letters are working great. I’m glad you enjoyed the post! Have a great weekend!

  4. So glad you had such a great time at the music festival, Jan. huge congratulations on those book sales! 🎉 I haven’t had that issue with the keyboard yet, but your tip on the stickers is one I’ll keep in mind. Have a wonderful weekend 💕🙂

  5. What an awesome time you had, Jan! Congrats on selling all those books and getting to provide an autograph copy to Deryl. I also loved the vid of you dancing. All your photos made me smile. 🙂

I wear letters off my keyboards all the time, but am thrilled to learn about this stick on letters from Amazon. I’m planning on getting a new Mac Book and giving my husband my old one. While I don’t need to know which letters are where, HE does, so those stick on additions will be perfect for him. Thanks for mentioning them!

    1. I did have a wonderful few days at the music festival. The music, the friends, and the love all fed my soul. I’m glad my photos made you smile. Glad I could introduce you to the stick-on letters. So far, they are working like a charm. Like you, I don’t always need to look at my keyboard, but sometimes my fingers get off the home keys, and I type gibberish. 🙂 Thanks for visiting today!

  6. The music festival sounds like it was a blast, Jan, and totally exhausting! Lol. But what a way to get tuckered out. Great news about the book sales, and that’s too cool that you got one in Deryl Dodd’s hands (with him in the book). How fun is that?!
Oh, and I wear the letters off my keyboard all the time. I write on the keys with a “white out” pen (which also wears off). Thanks for the tip about the stick on letters!

    1. Good morning, Diana. Thanks for visiting. Yes, it was a great way to get tuckered out for sure! And getting the book into Deryl’s hands was so awesome. I never thought about using a white out pen to remake the letters, but can see where that would also wear off. So far, the stick-on letters are working well. A cheap fix! Have a great weekend!

  7. So cool about Deryl. You and I talked about my trying something similar at one time, but it sounds like it was a lot of work. I don’t have a publisher, so my path could be easier, but who knows. Sounds like you had a wonderful time. Thanks for sharing it with us.

    1. I remember our discussion, Craig. It was definitely not easy to get the publisher to agree to let me use Deryl’s song (and him) in the story. But it added another layer that I really wanted in there. I did have a great time and selling some books was an added bonus. Thanks for visiting and have a great weekend!

  8. So glad you had a good time! You look like you are in your element. Congrats on selling all the books you brought with you. As for the keyboard, the same thing happens to me. I have tried many stick-on letters. Some last longer than others. I use a laptop so in order to replace the keyboard, you have to replace the entire base which is expensive. So I just kept replacing the stick-ons. (Until I finally broke down and bought a new laptop earlier this year.)

    1. Oh wow! I hadn’t thought about how you’d replace the letters on a laptop. Glad the stickers worked temporarily for you. Eventually, laptops need to be replaced, so great that you were able to do that. I replaced my laptop earlier this year, too, but only use it when I’m away from home. I did have a wonderful time at the music festival and selling the books was a bonus. Have a great weekend, Darlene, and thank you for visiting.

  9. I definitely need some of those stickers, Jan. I’m constantly wearing off my letters. It only bothers me when I’m entering an online banking password and I’ve mistyped twice and the third time will lock me out. 🙂
I’m glad you had a good time at the music festival. Fun and book sales…a great combination!
    Enjoy the weekend! xo

    1. Exactly, Jill. That’s a good point about when you might want to be able to see the letters on the keys. So far, the stickers are holding up good. I did have a wonderful time at the music festival and the book sales were a bonus. Thanks for stopping by! Have a great weekend ahead!

  10. I haven’t tried the stickers, but I have worn the letters off keyboards. Like Staci, I don’t look at the keyboard while typing, so it doesn’t bother me. (At least not much.)

So glad you had a wonderful time at the music festival. Congrats on selling those books!

    1. The times I look down at the keyboard are when my fingers get off the home keys because the keyboard moved, or I moved. 🙂 So far the stickers are holding. Thanks for the congrats. The music was wonderful!

  11. I love your photos and video. Seems you had a great time.

I also have that issue with keyboards. Let me know how the stickers work. I recently got a keyboard cover, which seems to be helping. But my S, C, and spacebar were damaged before the cover. Oh, well. I don’t look at the keys, so I guess it doesn’t matter much.

    Happy weekend!

    1. Good point, Staci. I don’t look at the keys either, but when I do, I’d like to see them. 🙂 I’m hoping the stickers hold up. Yes, I had a wonderful time at the festival. It fed my soul. Thank you for stopping by!
