Friday Free-For-All!

Happy Friday. Here it is, the start of another weekend. If you read my Wednesday Words post, you know how I perceive time. It does march on.

Hope you have some fun plans for the weekend. It’s my youngest grandchild’s eighth birthday, so we will be celebrating her on Saturday. This is Samantha. We call her Sammy. I love the freckles that march across her nose. She’s loving and smart and loves to play more than anything else. I hope she never outgrows that.

I did another experiment this week at the Revive Health and Beauty spa. It will my last one, as I have now exhausted all of their grand opening specials, and until my income changes, I can’t quite afford their full prices. What I did this week is something they call a Hocatt. This is what it looks like.

It uses a combination of modalities to gently but powerfully detoxify and help restore the body at the cellular level. This sauna provides a person’s body with the ability to fight off parasites, bacteria, fungus, viruses, and even yeasts by the administration of ozone gas. The Hocatt can affect the neurological tissues in the body, enhance the way your nerves work, and also improve the lymphatic system. I copied that from their brochure. Basically, it is an amazing sauna that combines ozone gas, oxygen, and PEMF (Pulsed Electro-Magnetic Field) all in one. I felt great when I got out!

I don’t want to make every Friday post about health and wellness, but let’s face it, it is a huge part of our lives. When we feel good, we function much better. So, in that vein, I want to share something I’ve added to my diet. Everyone who has looked at the Keto diet has seen the term MCT oil. Just to be clear, I’m not doing the Keto diet. According to Forbes Health, the basic benefits of adding MCT to the diet are:

  • Promote weight loss
  • Boost energy
  • Promote gut health
  • Boost heart health
  • Reduce inflammation

I didn’t purchase the actual oil, I purchased the powder because I wanted to add it to my protein balls, and I’ve been putting it in my morning coffee.

We’ll see. It’s so hard to know what’s good for you and what’s not these days because it constantly changes. When Rick developed atherosclerosis, one of the foods they said he absolutely could not have was coconut. Now, it’s touted as being good for you. My only goal in all of the experimenting I do is to feel the best I can every day. If I feel good, I can be productive. I’m curious if any of you use MCT products regularly in your diet, and if so, what are your thoughts on it?

I had another fun music soiree last Friday evening. Two really good friends were playing at a venue near me, and my oldest daughter went with me. Coby Weir is the son of the late Rusty Weir. Anyone familiar with Texas music will recognize Rusty’s name. And my other friend has been playing music around Dallas for over 50 years. Guthrie Kennard is funky and has such a unique way of performing. It was so much fun!

Guthrie Kennard, Me, Coby Weir

Here’s a little snippet of Coby’s awesomeness!

On the reading front, I opened the book I downloaded from NetGalley. The one that the publisher posted a warning about. I’m not sure I really will be able to finish it. So far, I see no plot or even a reason for the story. That’s my impression after two chapters. I’m not going to waste much of my time on it. There are tons of other amazing books waiting to be read.

And on that note, folks, we have SO many new books coming down the pike from Story Empire folks, but I won’t ruin their announcements. Just be ready for some wonderful stories to be released soon!

I’ve made headway on my current WIP and it’s now sitting at just over 8,000 words. Since this is a novella, that’s approximately 1/3 done. So, Yippeee!!

There will be no Friday Free For All next week as I will be in Florida with my daughter and granddaughters. For Samantha’s big birthday, her mother is taking her to Disney, and I get to tag along. I will catch up when I return.

Have a wonderful weekend, and as always, thank you for stopping by!

  2. So much in this post, Jan. Love the Hocatt. Cody can really play that guitar–wow. Thanks to husby, I got into hard rock and found I really enjoyed it. I used to jam with a Bluegrass group–me on mandolin. I miss that.

    Have a great weekend!

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Jacqui. Yes! Coby is amazing on the guitar. I love watching him perform. How cool that you play mandolin and used to play with a Bluegrass group. I love all kinds of music, and what I love most about Bluegrass are the incredible harmonies. Have a great weekend!

  3. Happy birthday, Sammy! How fun a trip to Disneyworld 🙂 Your spa time sounds wonderful. I use coconut oil in cooking and skin but wonder about its negative effects. I have never tried the more concentrated version. Also looks like a fun time at the concert too. Have a great week in Florida xo

    1. Oh, yes. The sauna was refreshing, John. I’d like to continue to do it monthly, but unfortunately, at their full prices, it’s not in my budget. Maybe someday. Thanks for visiting. Have a good weekend!

    1. Thank you, Yvette. She is so excited to go to Disney. She knows all the Disney princesses, and her mother reserved a princess room. I know it will be fun. Making memories! Let me know your thoughts on the MCT oil. Have a great weekend!

  4. Happy Friday, Jan! Wishing Sammy a beautiful and fun birthday! And freckles are a sign of the sun blessing you with kisses. As someone who has freckles, I was told this when I was young. 🙂 Enjoy your time with your family! xo

  5. Wow, I’m envious of the spa time. I haven’t treated myself to such fun in years. And I’ve never heard of Hocatt Ozone Saunas until your post. I doubt they’re available in my area, but when/if they arrive, I’ll sign up for a treatment. Enjoy the birthday party, the music, and all the fun treatments! 😊

    1. Look around, Gwen. You may be surprised at what’s available to you. The Hocatt made me think of the Indian sweat lodges, but with the added ozone, oxygen, and PEMF. Thank you for the birthday wishes for Sammy. Have a wonderful weekend!

  6. The sauna sounds much better than going in the freezer. LOL. I do recall that coconut oil was once forbidden (healthwise). Now it’s touted as one of the best. I’m still amazed that some in the medical field still promote margarine over real butter. Have they looked at the ingredients?

Wishing Samantha a happy birthday, and I hope you have a wonderful trip.

    1. Yep! The sauna was much more relaxing than the cryo. 🙂 And now I’m done with all that experimenting. Out of everything I tried, I think the red light table was the most beneficial for me. I’d like to continue that one. Maybe, eventually. And, I agree with the forbidden foods that are now suddenly so good for us. Who do you trust? Really, it all comes down to what our bodies tell us. It’s bizarre that the medical field promotes margarine. I think processed oils are a huge part of our national health crisis. But what do I know? I’m not trained in medicine or the body. But I listen to more holistic healers than medical ones. That’s just me. Thanks for the birthday wishes for Samantha. I’m sure the trip will be loads of fun. Have a great weekend, Joan!

  7. As you know, I also have a Samantha in the family and love her immensely. (Everyone should have an amazing Sam in the family.) Wishing your granddaughter the happiest of birthdays.

I used to take Udo’s Oil, which is an omega 3-6-9 blend (in the proper ratios) that contains MCT oil as well as other healthy ingredients. I know I felt better when I took it, and I can’t say why I stopped. Maybe I’ll look into it again. I didn’t know you could get MCT in powder form. Interesting.

    Have a great weekend, Jan.

    1. Thank you, Staci. I know Sammy will have a wonderful birthday! And it’s kinda cool to have that ‘Sam’ connection. 🙂 I am all for anything that makes us feel better. I know the omegas are great for our body and brain. Definitely worth looking at. I was surprised to find the MCT in powder form as well, but I really wanted to add it to my protein balls. Thanks for visiting. I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

  8. Happy birthday to sweet Sammy, Jan! She’s adorable! I’m not familiar with MCT products, so I’ve never tried the powder. I do love coconut, so perhaps I should. I always love your music soiree photos. You look so happy! Enjoy your time in Florida! xo

    1. Thank you, Jill. Music definitely puts me in my happy place and especially when I have a personal connection with the performers. I’m going to give the MCT a good try and see if I notice any health benefits. I’ll report back my findings, although I do understand everyone’s body is different. Have a wonderful weekend!

  9. Here’s to Sammy having a wonderful celebration! Enjoy that spa time, girlfriend. I love coconut oil! In the coffee, cooking with it, and oil pulling. Most people that I know use olive oil for the pulling, but I cannot have it in my mouth like that, so I tried coconut oil around 8 years ago and it works GREAT! The big thing that people need to remember is to never spit the oil into the sink or toilet because it will harden and mess things up. I expectorate into a lined garbage can! xoxo

    1. Thank you, Annette. Yes! I’ve heard that coconut oil is best for pulling, and I agree about never spitting it in the sink. I appreciate you adding to the conversation, my dear. Have a lovely weekend!
